WHAT TO SEE & DO IN & AROUND MONTROSE
The Hermitage B & B is an ideal base for your stay in Montrose. The coastal town is more or less halfway between Aberdeen and Dundee (45 mins) 1 hour from St Andrews and Royal Deeside and just over 1 hour to Perth. The 4 main Angus Glens are 30-45 minutes away and other Angus towns between 15 to 30 minutes away . Kirriemuir near the Glens a little further at 40 minutes away.
Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre was Britain's first operational military airfield set up in 1913. This centre is a wonderful place to visit and full of history starting when planes were quite literally kites!
The House of Dun, 3 miles from Montrose, is a must see in the area - a beautiful National Trust Georgian property and gardens overlooking the Montrose Basin Nature Reserve - see more about this wonderful reserve under wildlife. William Lamb Memorial Studio and Montrose Museum are well worth a visit, as are The Garden Parks in the Mid Links with bowling greens and tennis courts. All a short walk from The Hermitage. |
Lovely gardens at Dunninauld Castle and Langley park gardens a few miles away are open to visit at certain times of year.
Follow Montrose’s Statue Trail- find out about the wonderful sea dog Bamse and famous people that have statues placed a various locations in the town. A heritage trail of notable buildings and a heritage trail of the Ferryden area and Scurdieness lighthouse are pleasant strolls. Lots of golf (see our golf page) and other sports available |
Montrose Basin Visitor Centre is a must visit and whatever your age offers fun for all the family. The Sea Front Splash Park, sea front area and Charlton fruit farm will not only keep the children amused but thoroughly enjoyable for everyone.
