The coastal town is more or less halfway between Aberdeen and Dundee (45 mins) 1 hour from St Andrews and Royal Deeside and just over 1 Hour to Perth. The 4 main Angus Glens are 30-45 minutes away and other Angus towns between 15 to 30 minutes away . Kirriemuir a little further at 40 minutes away.
Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre was Britain's first operational military airfield set up in 1913 . This centre is a wonderful place to visit and full of history starting when planes were quite literally kites!
The House of Dun, 3 miles from Montrose, is a must see in the area - a beautiful National Trust Georgian property and gardens overlooking the Montrose Basin . William Lamb Memorial Studio and Montrose Museum are well worth a visit as are The Garden Parks in the Mid Links with Bowling Greens and Tennis courts . All a short walk from The Hermitage . |
Lovely gardens at Dunninauld Castle and Langley Park a few miles away are open to visit at certain times of year.
Follow Montrose’s Statue Trail- find out about the wonderful sea dog Bamse and famous people that have statues placed a various locations in the town . A heritage trail of notable buildings. A heritage trail of the Ferryden area. Scurdieness lighthouse. Coastal paths , beaches and woodland walks. They are all pleasant strolls . Montrose Basin Visitor Centre is a must visit and whatever your age offers fun for all the family .
